Dead Heat Does Not Horse Around

Dead Heat follows the story of a cop, Pally, who retires due to a heart condition. He becomes depressed, even considering suicide until his ex wife shows up and advises him to spend some time with his estranged step brother. The step brother however is a small time crook and tries to convince Pally to buy an injured race horse. He tells Pally that the horse just needs some minor surgery and will be race ready. Pally is convinced, mostly because he is looking for some excitement in his life after retiring.

They visit a veterinarian who Ray, the step brother, blackmails as he knows about the vet cheating on his wife. Soon the horse is race ready and they win their first race. A local gangster finds out about the amateur racers having big success in NZ sports betting and he becomes interested in their horse. Then Gangster, named Finnegan, steals their horse and they need to hatch a plot to get the horse back. They not only need to get their horse back, but Pally needs to sort out his relationship with his ex wife , as well as help out Sam, the daughter of the crooked jockey they hired to race their horse.

Kiefer Sutherland plays Pally, the retired cop. He is an actor, a director and producer. He is also a critically acclaimed actor, with a Golden Globe award, an Emmy Award and two Screen Actor Guild awards. He won wide spread acclaim with the hit series 24. He has consistently been in film since his first roles in 1986 in the Stephen King adaptation, Stand By Me. He continued the acclaim he received with Lost Boys in 1987, Young Guns in ’88 , A Few Good Men in 1992 , recently he did voice over work for the hit games Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeros and Metal Gear Solid : The Phantom Pain.

Anthony LaPaglia Features As Ray

Anthony LaPaglia plays the step brother, Ray. He is known for his role in the iconic coming of age film, Empire Record and Officer Jack Malone in Without a Trace. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama for his role. He also won a Prime Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series for his role as Simon Moon in the TV show Frasier.

Radha Mitchell Plays The Ex Wife

Radha Mitchell plays Pally’s former wife. She is an Australian actress who made her big break through with films like The Crazies. Pitch Black, Finding Neverland, Silent Hill, Man on Fire, Melinda and Melinda, and Phone Booth. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. Her role in the film The Waiting City, directed by Claire McCarthy won her a Best Actress award at the Antipodes Film Festival in 2010. She has also appeared in the Woody Allen film, Melinda and Melinda with Chloe Sevigne. One of her most commercially successful films was the videogame adaptation, Silent Hill in 2004. She recently appeared in the action film, Olympus Has Fallen with Gerhard Butler.
